Abstract

The objective of this study was to design and test a checklist to evaluate the competence of seventh semester students of the Bachelor's Degree in Dental Surgery at the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa when diagnosing and providing dental resin treatment. The approach was quasi-experimental, descriptive and longitudinal. The Student's t-test yielded a confidence level greater than 95 %. The results show that the use of the checklist was effective in diagnosing, elaborating and developing a resin treatment plan for patients in community dental clinics. Additionally, it constituted an important basis, together with the on-site observation technique, to record strengths and weaknesses during the clinical process. It was identified that the level of mastery of the competency increases according to the dynamism of the practice. Finally, it was found that the participants evidenced a close relationship between the knowledge that integrates the competency and showed a high valuation of the use of the checklist to improve their learning.
